Abstract:
We have calculated the interaction forces among rolling leukocytes on the endothelial walls of a venule of 20 micrometers in diameter. Tracks of moving leukocytes are recorded from video frames of an intravital microscopy. From these frames we have determined instantaneous velocities and forces and plugged the obtained values into a four dimensional flow simulation solver. The results suggest that margination and rolling of leukocytes are mainly triggered by hydrodynamics forces.
